CHÂTEAU FONTVERT

Château Fontvert is located near the village of Lourmarin in the heart of the Luberon Mountains, a region celebrated for the beauty of its landscapes. The estate was founded in 1598. For over three centuries, the soil has been cultivated by the same Huguenot family. The family has carefully maintained the land in accordance with the estate’s founding principles and traditions ever since.

On twenty hectares of vineyard, cultivated in organic farming since 2008, the typical varieties - Syrah/Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Vermentino and Grenache Blanc - are fully expressed, resulting in exceptional and flavorfull wines.

LOURMARIN

Located at the foot of the Luberon mountain, surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and orchards, the village of Lourmarin, rated as one of the “Most Remarkable Villages of France”, is a landmark in Provence. Year round, visitors flock in to discover its traditional architectural heritage, its XVth and XVIth century castle, its renowned farmer’s market, and its literary tradition (Albert Camus and Henri Bosco once lived there).

NEWS

The picking is going to start...

We intend to start the 2010 harvest around the 5th of September, which is a pretty late date for us (about 10 days later than in 2009). The grapes for the whites and the rosés will be picked first and we will wait until the end of September to start the reds. With perfectly healthy grapes, we foresee an excellent vintage.

We invite you to discover our vineyard...

From June 2010, we propose two original ways of discovering Château Fontvert vineyard :
- an educational footpath, based on 2 circuits of 1.7km and 1.5km, with a dozen of explicative notices about the viticultural practices, the soils, the wildlife of the Luberon...
- until the end of September, a free guided visit every Thursday at 5pm

Our first organic wines

After 2 years of organic cultural practices, the Château Fontvert rosé 2009 and the Château Fontvert blanc 2009 are our first wines certified "Wine made from grapes in conversion to organic farming" (certification made by Ecocert).
